Escape from Playtime Beginner Guide: Tutorial and Barry
Learn the first steps in Escape from Playtime: find items, deposit tribute in Barry and follow the tutorial objectives.
What should you do first?
Choose a character and start the tutorial from the character selection screen. The recorded Early Access tutorial introduces the cart, items and station in a controlled area before sending the player through the factory. Read each prompt as it appears: this guide describes what was visible in one tutorial recording, not a fixed route for every run.
How do you collect and deposit tribute?
- Locate Barry’s cart. The tutorial highlights it near the starting area. Its outline and interaction prompt help distinguish it from scenery.
- Explore and pick up items. Look for the item prompt and collect objects you find. The tutorial introduces several item types as the player moves through the area.
- Return to the cart and interact with it. The recording shows an “Insert Item Into Barry” prompt. Check the on-screen counter after depositing to see your contribution toward the target.
- Keep collecting until the displayed goal is reached. In this particular tutorial recording, the counter reaches 1,435 / 1,000 near the end. Do not assume that this target applies to every shift or game version.
- Follow the next objective. The tutorial also highlights the station and a lever. Follow the prompts shown in your own session, since the recording does not establish a universal sequence for all maps.
For the larger run loop and changing environments, see the gameplay overview. For party size and communication, see multiplayer and solo.
What should a new player watch for?
- Read the item description. The tutorial displays information for individual objects; the recording alone does not establish every item’s value or use in a normal run.
- Keep track of the way back. Barry is the deposit point in the tutorial. Before venturing farther away, notice landmarks and the route you used.
- Pay attention to the objective and counter. A collected object and a deposited contribution are different steps. Check for the interaction prompt and the counter change.
- Plan around the factory’s dangers. Steam describes hiding spots, distractions and alternate routes as ways to survive. Enemy behavior and layouts can vary; no specific safe route is guaranteed here.
