Escape from Playtime: confirmed details, dates and open questions

Mob Entertainment describes the game as a one-to-four-player cooperative survival horror experience set inside Playtime Co. Players control Smiling Critters, search changing factory areas for tools and materials, avoid hostile creations, and try to return the required resources safely. Solo play is also announced, so a full group is not required to start a run.

Start here if you want to know when you can play, whether your PC meets the requirements, or what the developer has actually announced. The sections below bring together the current release schedule, access rules, gameplay premise, multiplayer features and character information. Plans may change during development, so each detailed guide distinguishes a published fact from an inference and records when its sources were checked.

What players do during a run

The announced loop begins in a factory section shaped by the mysterious Voice. Players explore classrooms, warehouses, testing labs and connecting corridors while looking for tools, clues, scattered parts and building materials. The Critters can crawl, jump and climb, which fits their smaller scale and should make routes through familiar Playtime Co. spaces feel different from the main Poppy Playtime games.

The official store also describes procedurally generated environments that change between runs. That supports variation, but it does not prove that every room, objective or enemy is random. Match length, resource quotas, inventory limits, revival rules, difficulty settings and final extraction conditions have not been documented. Our gameplay page keeps the confirmed high-level loop separate from strategy claims that require a public build.

Solo, co-op and communication

Players can enter alone or use online co-op with up to three friends. The developer presents proximity voice chat as part of the group experience: nearby teammates are easier to hear, while voices become harder to hear as distance increases. A microphone is optional, although voice communication is recommended. In response to a text-chat question, the published FAQ says there is no in-game chat.

Solo support answers the player-count question, but it does not establish an offline mode. The developer has not explained how enemies, objectives or resources scale for one person, nor whether matchmaking will fill an incomplete party. This format also differs from PROJECT: PLAYTIME, which uses six survivors against a player-controlled monster. The new game is a separate Steam title built around a smaller cooperative group and a different resource objective.

Open Beta and Early Access timeline

The Open Beta is planned to begin on October 1, 2026. The official announcement directs interested players to a FirstLook application, but applying means being considered for participation; it is not a guaranteed invitation. No public start hour, time zone, end date or wave schedule was included in the sources checked on September 21. Players should use only links published by Mob Entertainment or its official pages and should not pay for an alleged beta key.

Steam Early Access is planned for October 21, 2026. The beta, Early Access release and eventual version 1.0 are separate stages. Access to the beta has not been announced as ownership of the released game, and no final 1.0 date is available. The current Early Access description mentions a full eight-character roster, one starter zone, a core enemy lineup and later additions shaped by player feedback; those are development plans rather than a dated roadmap.

Platforms, price and PC support

Windows PC through Steam is the only confirmed launch platform. The developer FAQ leaves open the possibility of other opportunities later, but it does not announce PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, macOS, Linux or mobile versions. The Steam listing shows Partial Controller Support. That can mean a controller works during gameplay while some menus, launcher steps or text entry still require a keyboard and mouse.

No public retail price or storage requirement was visible in the checked official sources. Missing pricing should not be interpreted as confirmation that the game will be free. The published minimum specification lists 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, an Intel Core i3-9100 or AMD Ryzen 5 3500, 8 GB RAM, a GeForce GTX 1650 or Radeon RX 470, and DirectX 12. Official resolution, graphics-preset and frame-rate targets are still unknown.

Playable characters and enemy roles

The Steam description says Early Access is planned to include the full eight-character Smiling Critters roster. It does not individually name all eight in the checked game copy or confirm unique classes, statistics, skills or rankings. Familiar characters from the wider franchise should not automatically be assigned a playable role or special ability until a selection screen, press kit or other first-party source shows that information.

Official descriptions separate the playable Critters from the rejected Playtime Co. creations that hunt them. A character appearing in promotional art, environmental storytelling or another Poppy Playtime release does not by itself prove how that character functions here. The roster guide records established names as secondary-source leads while keeping gameplay roles unconfirmed, preventing speculative character pages and unsupported tier lists.

How this wiki separates facts from guesses

Every guide uses three practical evidence states. Confirmed information is stated in a current official store page, developer announcement or developer FAQ. Planned information has been announced for a future beta or release and may still change. Unknown information is left unanswered when no reliable source provides it. This matters for details such as price, exact launch hour, install size, character abilities, progression and matchmaking.

Articles link directly to their sources and include a check date so older answers can be compared with newer announcements. When two official pages differ, the newer dated statement takes priority and the source history explains the change. Community pages can identify useful leads, but they are not used as proof of mechanics. This approach gives readers a concise answer without turning rumors, assumptions or placeholder store data into facts.
